Band Director ~ Cory Wynn

Cory M. Wynn is our band director at Beech Grove High School. Mr. Wynn’s responsibilities include teaching concert, symphonic, & pep bands, as well as, music history, music theory, and co-teaching the sixth through eighth grade bands. Mr. Wynn enjoys working with his alma-mater, the University of Indianapolis, to help the development of student-teachers and provide guidance to future music educators.  Mr. Wynn studied piano and trumpet, graduating from UINDY in 2001 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, K-12, Instrumental and Vocal.  In 2010, Mr. Wynn completed his Masters degree in Educational Leadership. 

Under the direction of Mr. Wynn, Beech Grove has received consistent gold ratings in ISSMA concert and marching band competitions.  In 2009, Mr. Wynn lead the Marching Hornets to their first trip to ISSMA State Finals in almost 20 years.  Since then, the Marching Hornets have been consistent State Finalist including their State Runner-Up finish in 2011.  Every four years, Mr. Wynn and the Marching Hornets enjoy traveling and performing in front of thousands of spectators at an evening parade at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Wynn is passionate about the band program at Beech Grove High School because he was a former Marching Hornet under the direction of Mr. James Williams before graduating with honors in music in 1997.

When he is not teaching band, Mr. Wynn also enjoys being a dad, playing basketball, golf, video games and spending time with friends and his wife and fellow music educator, Mary Wynn.  The Wynn's have 2 adorable kids, Cooper and Grayson Wynn.

Assistant Director ~ Scott Bradford


Scott Bradford has been an arts educator for the state of Indiana for more than 20   years. He holds a masters degree in Choral Conducting from Indiana University and a Music Education degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Mr. Bradford is department chair of Beech Grove High School’s music organizations where he serves as choral director, auditorium director and assistant band director. Some of his training has been in musical comedy, barbershop, opera, and gospel style organizations. Though his training is primarily music—his background in Professional and Community Theater has given him both knowledge and training in the areas of choreography, dance, technical theater and staging.

Scott and his wife Carla have been married for over 23 years and his two lovely daughters, Shelby and Samantha, make up his heart! Some of Mr. Bradford’s achievements have been: IPALCO Golden Apple Recipient for "Music Technology", Thomson Consumer Electronics Star "Technology Award", BGHS "Someone Special Award," Beech Grove Alumni "Teacher of the Year 2004", The Children’s Museum / Prelude Award- "Arts Educator of the Year 2005" & Beech Grove "Citizen of the Year 2006," Wal-Mart’s 2008 "Teacher of the Year" and conducting the finale of Mary Poppins on Broadway at the Amsterdam Theater.

Assistant Director ~ Jon Carney

Jon D. Carney is currently in his 7th year of teaching music in the state of Indiana, and his 5th year in Beech Grove.  He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana State University and a Master of Tuba Performance and Literature degree from the University of Illinois.  Prior to coming to Beech Grove, Jon was the middle school band director and assistant high school band director in Merrillville, IN.  In addition to teaching, Jon has been an active performer throughout his collegiate and professional life.  Mr. Carney has performed with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony and the Illinois Symphony, toured with the University of Illinois Wind Ensemble for a concert in Orchestra Hall in Chicago, IL, and during 2004 and 2005,  he was a marching member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps out of Rockford, IL.

When he's not teaching, Jon enjoys arranging music, watching sports, swimming, playing basketball, playing golf, and spending some relaxing time with friends and family!
